Rochester, N.Y. -- The baseball team improved to 17-8 when they defeated Rochester (17-10)Wednesday, 6-4. The game, which was originally scheduled as a doubleheader, was changed to a nine-inning single game due to inclement weather.
The Bombers collected six doubles in the game by five different players. Junior catcher # Rob Raux# (Ilion/Frankfort), who went 2-for-4, hit doubles in the fourth and eighth innings and scored junior third baseman Eric Ferguson (Columbia/East Greenbush) both times. Ferguson also went 2-for-4 with a double in the fourth. Junior second baseman Todd Czerno (Columbia/Brainard) hit the Bombers third double of the fourth inning, which advanced senior first baseman Jason Friedman (Whitney Young/Chicago, Ill.) to third before scoring on a throwing error. Friedman went 2-for-3 on the day.
Ferguson added the Bombers fourth run when he scored on a single by Friedman. Ferguson crossed home plate a team-high three times. Raux scored Ithaca's final run in the eighth on another Friedman single.
Junior
Nick Sottung (Pulaski/Pulaski) improved to 6-2 by pitching 7.2 innings, striking out two and allowing two earned runs. Senior
Matt Lavoie (Moses Brown/Providence, R.I.) registered the Bombers first save of the season.
The Bombers take on Clarkson Thursday at 7 p.m. in Watertown, N.Y.
